Nas fashions himself as something of a hood Jesus here; the main difference is that he got all of his learning from the streets rather than religious figures. Just as Jesus fulfilled the prophecies in the Old Testament and became known as the Prince of Peace, Nas considers himself a “rap prophet” and at the end of the day, just wants peace.

Given some of his religious views at the time – he stated he didn’t believe in any type of God and bragged about killing Jesus – this line feels a bit out of place. However, Nas has always been spiritual, and the barbs he aims at Jesus or other Biblical figures have to do with his taking issue with religion as an institution more than anything.
