“Trouble Man” is a song by Marvin Gaye, an artist Jay has close spiritual ties with. Jay compares himself to “Mar” (Marvin) in this line, claiming that he is smooth in the same manner Gaye was.

He continues the God theme by claiming he is the youth spirit, meaning he is part of the culture, and involved in the grass roots of hip hop. “I am y'all with the flow”: he has his ear to the ground and understands the way in which the currents are flowing in hip hop.

“I come up hard…” is the first line from the Marvin Gaye song. He comes up hard, similar to the stiffness that starch imparts, but he is still able to evolve and grow.

Foxy got you hot because you kept your face in her puss
What you think you gettin girls now because of your looks?
