Although during the film Fade to Black Jay-Z states that he has never read the Bible, this line is from Isaiah 11:6 in which several predator animals lie with prey signifying the perfect nature of the world that will be restored at a later date. The Bible verse states that a child will lead these animals.

Jay questions his status as a child of God. As his nephews are still following him, he figures he’s still classed as one, but is well aware that honour may be rescinded the more sins he commits.

Passing Go is probably the most universally recognized action in Monopoly: you get $200 just for showing up. One of the cards in Monopoly states: Go directly to jail. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Jay has no intention of ending up behind bars.

Monopoly is the classic Hasbro board game where you try to buy up all the properties to bankrupt your opponents.

In the game of hustling, the consequences are much more dire, and the turf war hotly contested. Each hustler had their own corner, controlled by kingpins and enforced by gangsters.

Jay details the danger in Decoded:

Word got back to us that we weren’t welcome in the park. This one kid, a boxer, got into a hand-to-hand fight with Hill when he walked through the park anyway. It was like plaground beef all over again. So how did we react? We went to the park and confronted these cats at four in the afternoon, both sides armed and ready to shoot it out. We faced off and guns were drawn, but luckily nobody got shot. We did get respect.

According to a 2010 interview with Spin, “Man Down” is about breaking a man’s heart. The phrase “to shoot down” is an idiom that means rejecting someone or something.

Rejection can lead to embarrassment, especially when it occurs in a public place. The humiliation of getting rejected in a crowd-filled place like Central Station
can be mortifying.

This line is also reminiscent of the first verse of Queen’s 1975 hit single, “Bohemian Rhapsody”:

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger now he’s dead

There is an interesting contrast between this line and the concept of Lupe’s “The Instrumental”, reflecting a shift in the role of media. In “The Instrumental”, the media is described as a tool of brainwashing and helplessness. In this song, it’s going to be used as a tool to inspire, showing our protagonist a world that he wants for himself.

Most people are just kind of laughing at Lil Kim’s repeated attempts at dissing Nicki. A lot of the things Kim has said herself are pretty unintentionally hilarious.

Lil' Kim sold Black Friday through PayPal and claimed to have broken a record for the fastest sales ever through the service; a claim PayPal denied

Even if she did any kind of numbers through PayPal, it’s still PayPal: it means that Kim can’t get signed, and nobody cares about her…must hurt!

Thanks in no small part to Drake’s pop singles like “Find Your Love”, as well as the recent pop successes of Lil' Wayne and Nicki Minaj, a lot of people think that Young Money is toning down their hip-hop aspects in order to reach a mainstream audience.

Drake’s counter-argument is that he’s going HAM on this shit, so anyone who thinks Young Money’s gone pop can kindly suck it.

OR…
There were rumors that Drake and Wayne had beef with each other because drake wanted to make an album with Wayne first, but then Jay-Z and Kanye later said they were doing the same. These rumors were false, so Drake is saying “we have the ROC in the mutherfucker, you thought niggas was gon pop in this motherfucker?” because they are all cool with each other. Blogs thought otherwise.

AND, it’s a continuation of the last line, pop rocks the candy..hence..got the ROC in this muthafucka, you thought niggas was gon POP in this muthafucka

Notorious B.I.G., Big Pun, Big L…Dead.

Jay-Z (Shawn Carter), Diddy (Sean Combs)…Money.

Big Sean is both a “Big” and a “Sean” though! So who knows what’s going to happen…?

Similar to his line from the 2010 G.O.O.D. Music B.E.T. Cypher

The last two lines have some wordplay with the numbers, which are all repeated twice. Even though his odds are “50/50”, with his perfect “20/20” vision he’s counting “a hundred 100’s” which is $10,000.

Randall Cunningham was an NFL Quarterback. Just like a QB would tell his team to go deep on the field, she’s telling these men to “go deep” on her sexually, because since she’s got no self-esteem, she’s down to do whatever these guys want.
