This song uses an old-school Aretha Franklin sample from the song “Spirit in the Dark”. Aretha gave Kanye clearance for the sample on the condition that the song didn’t have profanity, which is why this song is edited even on the explicit version of the album.

In the video the conversations are being held solely between Haley and Eminem, but the song was written for Haley to also embody Kim and her perspectives on Marshall’s wrong-doings, specifically the abandonment of his family of which she voices her grief over in many interviews. Especially in the 3rd when Haley’s tone get’s more aggressive and she addresses him as ‘Marshall’. Haley representing both herself and Kim doesn’t have to make sense, it’s a dream.

That being said, “spitting images” are two things that are difficult to distinguish from one another, the same way Haley and Kim are hard to distinguish in the third verse.

“Spitting” also refers to his and Kim’s abusive relationship where they hit and spit on each other.

A play on words “cannot see” and “nazi”

This is also a nice little play on the meanings of the words “watch” and “see.” They “watch” (look to, obsess over) Wayne, but they cannot “see” (engage him on his level, understand him) him.
