“Warning” was released along with “Big Poppa” as the second single from Ready To Die as a double A-side with “Who Shot Ya?” on the B-side. Similar to “Gimme the Loot,” Biggie raps from a dual perspective as he portrays himself having a phone conversation with his associate Pop who is attempting to warn him about a potential plot against him.

In a Ready To Die retrospective for XXL, producer Easy Mo Bee revealed that he originally made the beat for fellow Brooklyn rapper Big Daddy Kane as he felt the Isaac Hayes “Walk On By” sample fit Kane’s style but Kane passed on it and Puff Daddy gladly accepted the track a few months later.

“Juicy” is the first single from Big’s debut album, Ready to Die, and is the track that established him as a titan.

It was one of the first mainstream rap songs about a rapper’s own rise to the top. But beyond that, this is also the story of how hip-hop itself became popular.

The title is derived from Mtume’s 1983 hit “Juicy Fruit” – Tony Humphries' “Fruity Instrumental” remix was sampled directly for the beat. The chorus of “Juicy” is a flip of Mtume’s chorus with slightly different words, sung by (uncredited) R&B girl group Total.

Kanye coming with the 70s Heron flow, classic as always

Cam'ron lets Kanye make his beats, but – in a utility-maximizing move – forbids him from rapping.

Kanye has stated that this is his favorite beat that he didn’t really do. Brian “All Day” Miller did the beat, and both shared co-production credit.

The Diplomats aka “Dipset” is a movement that you’ve got to be in tune with. Sort of like a family, except all dudes.

A disagreement about the meaning of this song’s lyrics between Tom Lehman and Ilan Zechory made them want to create a website based on crowdsourcing to explicate lyrics. Rap Genius was born !

A reference to the ‘90’s pop/rap hit “Rump Shaker”, where the chorus is “All I wanna do is zoom-a-zoom zoom zoom and a boom boom! (Just shake your rump!)”, which is a euphemism for “All I wanna do is have sex”
