This is either an allusion to the greeting received by the protagonist in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, or to Mr. Potter from the Frank Capra classic “It’s a Wonderful Life”, but either way, Heath is continuing to whiten it up.

One of the differences between this and other prescripts is the naming of the local church workers who are known to Paul. He probably did this when he knew the name(s) in order to create a more personal message to the church that he is addressing. In this case the greeting takes on additional significance, as Apphia is believed to be Philemon’s wife. The inclusion of a woman, which goes against the strict definition of a Roman ekklesia, suggests that women played a significant role in these early communities.

Additionally, in the case of the Letter to Philemon, Paul addresses it directly to Philemon and only secondarily to the congregation meeting in Philemon’s house. As the probable main cause of this letter is to elicit a specific action from Philemon (asking him to take back Onesimus) the inclusion of Philemon’s wife would have been seen as a great courtesy, thereby greasing the gears a bit on Paul’s favor request.
