Paraphrasing Vanilla Ice’s hit “Ice, Ice, Baby”.

Also, Damondrick “Marion” Jack was a classmate of Lars and frequent collaborator, who used the nickname DJ. This was a reference to how Lars' friend DJ would both produce and tour with Lars. DJ helped produce this song, “iGeneration” and “Hurricane Fresh”, the first three songs from “the Laptop EP”.

This is a reference to the classic Ogden Nash poem:

I eat my peas with honey;
I’ve done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife.

As a kid Aes, like most kids, didn’t much care for peas, so he did what he could to make the experience more bearable, like shoveling them in quickly, and maybe eat them with honey.

The concept of eating vegetables as a kid is explored more deeply on “Grace” later in the album.

He’s had a small taste and sight of what is to come in the next life. The idea of “tasting and seeing” is from Psalm 34:8:

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Now three years later he is finally out the hood! He uses the word swamp here intentionally as swamps have a tendency to keep you stuck where you are. The area around Atlanta is dotted with swamps, and this reference also sets up the next line where he mentions gators.

Drawing a comparison between the more successful people he saw growing up and the poor folks. On the one hand you’ve got the guy with a fast car who also eats fast and plentifully (possibly a drug dealer). On the other hand you’ve got 3 people splitting one lima bean for dinner. “Pick a winner” is rhetorically asking “Which one of these do you think sounds more appealing?” Of course he’s going to choose the one that leads to wealth, no matter what it takes to get there, which leads right into the next line.

The splitting a lima bean imagery comes from the Disney animated cartoon “Mickey and the Beanstalk”. See the scene referenced starting at 6:26 below.

He and his crew are holding God close to their hearts, but even when you’re trying your best to follow God, it’s sometimes hard to know the Will of God for your life.

In addition to the Texas Hold ‘em play on words, this is also a nod to the spiritual strength of the Texas contingent of the Deepspace 5 crew (Playdough, Freddie Bruno, and Sivion).
