So instead they named him “Machop”, a combination of ‘macho’ (to be tough or masculine) and ‘chop’.
While chopping is realated to karate and is a move that can be used to inflict pain upon a another person the stigma mostly associated with chopping is boards and blocks. Ironically you see Machop and the rest of its evolutionary line participating in construction quite frequently.

Even though it’s name means “to be manly” not all Machop are male although the gender rate of Machop is 3:1 in males favor.

In the Japanese version it’s name is Wanriky which is a combination of “wan” (arm) and “riki” (strength).
