TRUE! And yet, for as fresh as their sounds are, they are still reminiscent of some of the greats who came before them. Most obvious, both Chance and Vic have mastered the fast rap of Eminem, bending theirs words so the last word in one bar is also a part of the bar that follows. Chance also seems to pay homage to Lil Wayne in flow and pitch.

This is truly the point – their music is genre-bending – it blurs the line between hip hop and everything else. Vic will tour with Disclosure next year so where does that put him in terms of genre? Chance and Vic will fall less victim to “classism” that Kanye talks about, because they’re much more than rap.

This is what I call “Random Monday outfit when it’s freezing and I’m tired!”

Bottom up:

  • boots: HOPE is this awesome little brand from Stockholm that feels kinda indie to me. The actual material, which you can’t tell from this terrible pic, is a sort of raw suede that has a natural sheen. It means they only look better when I scuff them up!

  • jeans: these are hands down my favorite pants ever!!! I always thought spending a lot of jeans was stupid (even though I wear them the most) but then I found these “twiggy” James Jeans and fell in love.

  • sweater: this was actually a free sample my roomie gave me when she was working at J Crew… I don’t even like J Crew at all (too preppy) but I love that a the beige base is accented with NEON GREEN and this Madewell sweater feels kinda Prada-esque to me. (à la Summer of 2011 when they had the heavy color blocking)

  • bag: this is a little satchel bag I wear every day and makes all my outfits pop. Ryan Lewis complimented me on it once (Macklemore agreed) The fabric is metallic gold jacquard quilt. It’s from an indie cult designer MAYLE that I interned for all throughout college. Jane Mayle closed the line down in 2009 but then re-opened it for a series of capsule collections. I was her right-hand man for a bunch of pop-up shops in NYC and LA. Makes the bag a little #rare since the line is again N/A. Look how beautiful she is!:

^ the other necklace I never take off and was an impulse purchase in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia when I was there with Jane Mayle researching women co-ops for manufacturing.

Ye is constantly criticized for his, uh, enthusiasm in interviews, especially when speaking on his passion projects.

His Zane Lowe BBC interview in which he shouted frequently about encountering racism and limitations in his creative endeavors was even made into a parody on the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show inciting a twitter beef between Ye and Kimmel.

Obama was quite popular in hip hop until 2010 when he started to decline. So it looks like Kanye is on trend:

Not the first time Kanye has talked about utopia:

The term “Utopia”, which comes from Greek and means “no place”, was actually coined by Sir Thomas More in his book by the same name. In More’s book, he depicted a fictional society in the Atlantic Ocean.
