As was the case with whistleblower Pvt. Chelsea Manning (formerly Bradley) who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for violating the Espionage Act when she leaked the largest number of classified documents in US history.

A UN special report found that Bradley was initially held under “cruel, inhumane. and degrading” conditions.

Edward Snowden is similarly wanted by the US Government for leaking documents to The Guardian and The Washington Post. He wrote a letter to the German gov’t regarding their investigation into mass surveillance, and cited threats that meant he had to leave his family and home.
