Track 7 off of Because the Internet (released December 10th, 2013). This was originally featured at the end of the trailer for his short film Clapping for the Wrong Reasons.

In this track, Gambino reflects on going out of his way to reconcile with an old flame with a totally different lifestyle.

The video was released via Michael B Jordan’s Twitter, but CG’s record label, Glassnote, was not pleased and responded by sending take-down notices to all blogs. Bino was less than happy about this.

The title refers to Telegraph Avenue, one of the main streets in downtown Oakland, CA.

Interestingly enough, Donald and Lloyd went to the same school, DeKalb School of the Arts in DeKalb County, Georgia.

This track is more than an attempt to rekindle with an old flame. The line:

I got furniture to move
And we’ll both be 30 soon

Goes to show the uncertainty and insecurity Gambino possesses as he approaches this milestone in life. This song begs the question, is Gambino fully an adult? Should he stop doing kid shit? Should he already be settled down? If so, who with?

The line:

The only one I know is you, so the fuck I’m supposed to do?

Further shows his complete uncertainty as to if he’s where he should be for his age–an issue many millennials are facing as they grow older.

Bino won’t “let the cat out of the bag”, referring to how he won’t be speaking on any of the previous questions, as a Calico is a type of cat.

He might also have a “calico” gun concealed in the handbag, in which case he’s letting his gun out of the bag like a cat (also calico) #wordplay.

It’s simpler than this. “Are you dating Jhene?” is responded to by this line: “Calico inside a handbag” he has a cat in the bag, and he’s keeping it. It’s wordplay to say he’s keeping Jhene.

Calico is also a name that’s associated with a lot of Rum. Including, ‘Calico Jack’ Rum in the Northwestern states.
