Ab-Soul has a habit of using these words quite often. He even has songs titled “Empathy” and “Mr. AB-SOULutely.”

His diction also says something about what he chooses to speak on. He uses empathy in his approach and prefers to be absolute verses just stating opinions.

A reference to his almost identical line on “Terrorist Threats”.

Babylon was the ancient, war-mongering nation that controlled most of the Near East and Mesopotamia. Soul makes this allusion to suggest that the US government is the modern-day Babylon in its rule. Most notably, the great Tower of Babel fell, after the people of Babel attempted to build a tower to reach the heavens, much like that of the Twin Towers collapse on 9/11.

Soulo was referencing the concept of Babylon from the Rastafarian religion. In Rastafarianism, Babylon is a corrupt land of greed, materialism, and sin, as apposed to Zion, the land promised to them by Jah.

Basically, Babylon is used to stand for everything in an Evil state in the world.

When I first heard this line in Terrorist Threats I assumed that Soul was referencing the Rastafari movement. Rastafari reject the degenerate society of materialism, oppression, and sensual pleasures which they refer to as Babylon. Throughout Soul’s music he always talks about “life without a balance” and many other things. Soul’s music usually focuses on ideas and movements not tangible goods. I think what he means here is that society (out my window) focuses too much on physical items. That’s why right after he says grab your gun, because physical items lead to violence when people want to take what they do not have. Money is not the root of all evil. The perception of a tangible value is.

Christopher Dorner was the LAPD and US Reserve officer who allegedly shot and killed several LAPD police officers and their families. After an extensive standoff with the police, LAPD burned down the cabin they had Dorner cornered in and Dorner then supposedly shot himself in the head in the San Bernadino mountains.

Before he allegedly killed himself, he wrote an interesting manifesto you can read here.

Note the coincidental similarity between the word “drone” and DORNER’s last name. Shortly after the Dorner case, the US began using surveillance drones on US territory. The US has also caught fire for its terrorist drone assassination campaign, mainly because it has killed fifty civilians for every 1 militant.

This venture would be NeXT, which created workstations for higher education and business markets. Their first product, The NeXT computer was created in 1988.

NeXT was also Jobs’s window back into Apple, after the company was purchased by Apple in 1996.

On May 31, 1985, Jobs was fired from Apple after months of tension between Jobs and the CEO, John Sculley. At the time, Jobs was Apple VP and General Manager of the Mac department. He was demoted to merely a Chairman.

In response, by September 1985, Jobs had resigned with this letter, which he also reportedly sent to Newsweek
