It’s difficult for him to hold himself up. Playing off the idea of being “rosy” or bright and happy, he chides that he left his roses at home. (Something like my dog ate my homework).
It also plays on the homonyms “rosy” and “rosé”. And then you get the other reference to the “white ones” which could be white roses but also white wine, and the line “on the vine” which brings up the idea of wine again. It ties in all those religious themes too, the “grace” of god in sacramental wine.
