These are both references to his musical work. The first is Cole World, his first album as a rapper. The second line “snowy days” hints at his mixtape The Warm Up, which despite the name showed Cole dressed in a jacket in the middle of a snowy night.

With an earworm sample from Linda Scott’s “I’ve Told Every Little Star,” the lead single from Mac Miller’s mixtape K.I.D.S. peaked at #88 on the Hot 100 after getting a boost in popularity when HBO’s 24/7 Flyers/Rangers: Road to the NHL Winter Classic revealed that the Flyers used it as a victory song.

Music video director Rex Arrow provided some background information on “Knock Knock”:

When Malcolm first played me the track, we both kind of jumped to ‘It would be cool to do something that was kind of a throwback.’ That sort of slowly evolved, and the idea of mixing black and white, and color came in. I had done some dance stuff in college, and musical theatre in high school. I was like, ‘Look, man, it may sound strange but I think it would be cool if we kinda did something that felt a little Westside Story.’ It was a cold day in November. We shot the whole thing in one day, which is crazy to think about now.

Twista prides himself on rapping about topics other than the stereotypical themes associated with the rap game, like drugs and guns. An Uzi is a type of submachine gun. He prefers to talk about women or switch it up and “Make A Movie,” as he once said.

The “you” is the music that Cole so enjoys in his life. Whenever he was depressed the music was always there for him to release his feelings. The music helped him release his feelings even when it wasn’t there, which means even when he was just writing lyrics for a song in silence.

Alternately, he may be talking about God. Even though God is not always present in every decision and moment in our lives, he’s always right where we need him to be. By not being there he helps us learn from our mistakes, and by being there he prevents us from going down the wrong path.

Another reference is he could also be reaching out to his fans, saying that they were always where he needed them to be, whether backing him up from the get go or discovering him after he made his come up.

13th track on the album Born Sinner and an interlude before the song “Crooked Smile”.

Note how the two interludes on the album correlate with each other. After rapping about the problems of having “Mo' Money”, he now sees the positives of being “well paid for this rapping shit”. This also highlights the albums transition from Cole’s dark side (hell) to now showing a positive attitude (heaven).
