Clever little metaphor here. Despot says the sun is shining through onto his face as he rides around in his roof-less car.

He personifies and likens the suns rays shining as a child trying to shine to impress its father by performing some sort of talent, chore or task.

He’s riding round with the top off of his car, he likens the lack of the roof on the whip to the absence of a tooth from a toddler’s mouth. Some children lose their first tooth as early as 4 or as late as 7. Generally, the younger the child was when the teeth came in, the earlier they fall out.

In conclusion, Thursday’s Child takes beautiful clothing, beautiful lives and plasters them on herself. She goes to parties and alters her mindset so that she hardly exists. She soils the clothing (both physically and metaphorically) and people watch her without sorrow because she is doing this to herself.

Each week she attempts to repent, but even that is an act. In the end, the only thing that is truly a representation of who she is are the dirty clothes.

Thursday’s Child has far to go.

Silks and linens could allude to the fact that the costumes that she gets a hold of are pure, rich.

It may be representative of her inability to face the future and the fleeting manner of her life. What she values Thursday is already meaningless by Monday. The notion of her in “rags” paints her as a kind of beggar; she’s drifting from party to party “begging” for a feeling of belonging.

Windows is Sunbather’s last interlude and contains two overflowing samples.

The first is a live recording of preacher in downtown San Francisco, California, about which vocalist George Clarke claimed:

They’re there all the time, yelling at crowds."

The second sample is a recording of guitarist Kerry McCoy dealing drugs. Around the time of recording Sunbather, McCoy was addicted to pharmaceutical opiates and Clarke wished to record one of his drug deals to include something that was very personal to his fellow band member.

Clarke commented on the content of the track stating:

Thematically, it’s supposed to be about this guy talking about the evils of hell intermixed with one’s own personal hell and the actual realities like addiction and self-worth, not the fire and brimstone. [McCoy] didn’t have a lot of money, and he was kind of desperate; he’s showcasing the true horrors that are here on earth—one’s own personal demons."

Face to Face was co-produced, co-written and features vocals from Todd Edwards. Daft Punk considered Edwards to be one of the biggest influences on the duo’s work. The duo initially wanted to work with him on Daft Punk’s debut album Homework, but had difficulty convincing Edwards as the two were not as well known at the time.

The duo stated:

We are free to explore other areas. It will be interesting to see what we’ll do next. Now we can work with other people."

Daft Punk would later reunite with Edwards for the song Fragments of Time in Daft Punk’s 2013 album Random Access Memories. Edwards also noted that despite his success in the garage house scene, he is occasionally greeted with surprise and praise for being the singer in this song.

The song features two uncredited samples, the first is Evil Woman by Electric Light Orchestra that appears nine seconds in:

“Falling in Love” by Surface was also sampled for the beat and the flute:

Short Circuit is probably one of the earliest tracks created for Discovery, as a beta version of the song was played before performances of Da Funk at some Daftendirektour appearances.

A short circuit is a problem in an electrical circuit where two or more wires that are not supposed to come in contact with each other touch. A short circuit can result in a very high current flowing through the circuit.

“Get Down Saturday Night” by Oliver Cheatham was interpolated in Voyager, it appears right from the start and plays throughout:

The title simply alludes to a traveler to a distant land (especially one who travels by sea).

Nightvision is the sixth track from Daft Punk’s second album, Discovery.
