The next stanza takes a turn, in that James' partner has left now. Blake feels pedestrian and anonymous taking the bus just to be close to strangers, yet feeling as if the negativity and bad characteristics of the relationship have gone, leaving him liberated.

I think the annotation to Part II should be able to stand on its own without pointing to Part I. Just because the lyrics are the same as in the first part it doesn’t follow that the annotation will be the same. The line “Wanton borrowed gun” in this case carries a greater finality to it.
Song I ends with the line “Beacon don’t fly too high”. This suggests that the borrowed gun was dangerous but there was a hopeful ending, a warning not to fly too high.
Part II begins with the same warning. It ends in the gun. There is a greater tone of melancholy and acquiesence with ending Part II on the gun.
We don’t know what happened, we only know it was the end.
