“Hyphy” is a hip hop genre and culture originating from Oakland/the Bay Area in the late 90s/early 2000s. It is similar to the Southern “crunk” movement. The term is derived from “hyper” or “hyperactive.”

Too $hort, the artist sampled in this song, is associated with the hyphy movement and aesthetic, so this line is Sweetie giving props to Too $hort and the original track.

Perhaps a reference to the word “onomatopoeia” in the following line, a notoriously difficult word to spell.

An advance is payment given to an artist before they begin working on a project, say, a book or an album.

Nicki plans to spend her new advance on a Bugatti, an expensive sports car.

Trixie first explained the meaning behind “Goner” when she premiered it live during “Full Coverage Fridays” in 2020:

I found that as I got “successful” or like moved away or whatever people from my hometown, people who I was friends with, their opinions of me had sort of changed without me really knowing about it. To the point where I would come home and be like “It’s just nice that everyone just here treats me totally normal.” and people would be like “Oh no, people are mad at you.” […] Somebody said to me that I guess the word on the street was that I was just like a goner and I don’t know why I just ran with that.

In 2023, in a Vice video recorded before The Blonde & Pink Albums released, Trixie explained:

The one thing about moving away from Wisconsin and moving to L.A. was: the more, like, successful I got, the more I could come home and hear, like, people’s opinions of me had changed. Somebody was like: “Oh yeah, she’s a total goner,” meaning, like, live in L.A., sell out, whatever. And that just like stuck with me, so then I wrote this song called “Goner.”

Continuing the theme of comic book superheroes, Chris bemoans the fact that he’s like Spider-Man… but before the spider bite and superhuman powers.

This song was released one year after the Spider-Man film, in which Peter Parker drops his lunch tray in front of the sparkling love interest, Mary Jane.
