Tillman invites you to join him on this journey into the depths of his rough upbringing on this album. He wants to show you the darkest of darks of his upbringing.

Tillman demonstrates how hopeless Camden, AK was as he was growing up by stating that every corner had a liquor store and church, two places where people go to seek refuge when they are in a particularly tough situation in their life.

For Troy Tillman, Camden is a scary place due to the numerous bad memories he had growing up in the rough neighborhood that he outlines on the album. Everyone coming out of the hood has their own version of Camden, a place which holds them down and threatens their life.

Camden represents all of Tillman’s fears growing up.

Deraj is contemplating the different motivations for why every rapper has something they’re afraid to say to the public. It could be their thought process, because of the pride rappers have, or it could be a natural instinct. The issue could also just be because humans are self-focused and afraid for their own lives in these rough conditions.

Deraj has nice wordplay here, using the adjective ‘vain’ after using the word blood. The vein is what blood travels in, so this double entendre ties the whole line together nicely.

Deraj begins by questioning himself but ultimately ends up deciding that the answer to his question is yes.

So many rappers grow up in the same predicament coming from low income places of violence where rapping or sports are the only way to make it out. Deraj is stating that all of them, including himself, are all one and the same as they are coming from the same predicament whether it be Jay Z coming out of Bronx in the 90s or Chief Keef coming out of Chicago in the last few years.

Passion in both lyricism and message is deeply routed into the genre of rap. Artists of the genre tend to be “real” as authenticity is important to the culture.

Jon doesn’t sugarcoat his message here, announcing that those MCs who lack passion and rather just spit throw away lines about money and hoes with no actual meaning do not even deserve a place in the genre. He calls these individuals wack and argues that they distract from the “real” more passionate rappers.

Skizzy is demonstrating why he is labeled as a douchebag by stating that he views himself as an unquestionable legend. The braggadocios line demonstrates an undeniable cockiness in Skizzy’s mentality toward life.

Nothing will stop Yonas at this point. He’s not gonna burn out like so many MCs do, he’s gonna just keep getting bigger.

Yonas is paraphrasing Taylor Swift’s line from the original version of Blank Space, in which she says:

So it’s gonna be forever, or it’s gonna go down in flames"

While Swift was referencing her relationship, Yonas is referring to his rap career.

Creating something from paper mache involves tearing pieces of paper (often times newspapers) to shreds in order to create a sculpture of some sort.

Similarly, Yonas is killing his flows (tearing it up, if you will) and as a result making great music.

Haters and Corporate music companies want none of Yonas. Yonas is stating that these two groups do not want to see him succeed. They’re hoping that Yonas gets locked up so that he doesn’t pose a threat as a successful rapper.

Haters want Yonas to fail because, well, they’re haters. Uncreative labels want Yonas to fail because they don’t want someone who didn’t follow their lead to succeed and prove that you don’t need a big name record label to make it as an artist.
