Bereits in der Antike und vor allem in biblischer Doktrin gilt die Menschheit als “Krone der Schöpfung” – daher wurde der Verlauf der Evolution, die laut Darwin eigentlich richtungslos ist – oft missinterpretiert als ein Schöpfungsbaum, der zum Menschen hinführt:
NMZS meint das einerseits ironisch, aber anderseits auch passend zur kulturkritischen Ausrichtung des Liedes soll das auch verdeutlichen, dass der Mensch gerade durch seine Position an der Spitze der Schöpfung wieder verkommt.

Der Lauf der Evolution wird klassischerweise auch gerne als Baum dargestellt, mit dem Menschen an der (Baum-)Krone der Schöpfung:
NMZS ist aber diese Geschichte egal, solange er auf der Couch chillen kann und Weed rauchen kann. Das Wortspiel dabei: Auf Englisch heißt kiffen auch “to smoke trees”, also verraucht er dabei – quasi-kannibalistisch – seine eigene Existenz und Geschichte.

Klingt wie Jackass, aber ist ein gar nicht mal so seltenes Stilmittel des abstrakten Theaters.
Kurz bevor die Aschenbecher EP 2012 erschien, wurde in Berlin zum Beispiel heftig über eine Inszenierung von Hendrik Ibsens Theaterstück John Gabriel Borkman diskutiert, bei der unter anderem Farbe auf die Bühne gekackt wurde:

Evolution gone bad: Der Mensch stammt von Affenvorfahren ab und in dieser Entwicklung schwingt auch der Gedanke von Fortschritt mit – also die Vorstellung vom Menschen als höchstentwickelte Lebensform.
Als solche war es den Menschen auch möglich Werkzeuge wie das Rad zu erfinden, was ihnen letztendlich den Weg zur dominante Spezies auf der Erde eröffnete.
Dan meint aber – angelehnt an die kritische Theorie von Adorno und Horkheimer – dass hier schon der Niedergang mit einprogrammiert war. Die logische Konsequenz menschlicher Entwicklung ist ihre letztendliche Verdummung (Karneval) und eigene Vernichtung (Nuklearwaffen).
Er stellt die Evolution hier also bildlich eher als Kreislauf denn als Entwicklung dar – der Affe wird zum Menschen, der durch gerade durch die eigenen Erfindungen wieder zum Affen devolviert.
