Thanatos is the god of death in Greek mythology and has links in Freudian psychology. According to Sigmund Freud, humans have a life instinct, called Eros, and a death drive, commonly called Thanatos.

Thanatos had a stronger presence in FREUD JUNG’s previous EP but in INTEPRETATIONS, he isn’t mentioned except for this song. It is a hark back to FREUDIAN and reminds listeners that FREUD JUNG is very much still dealing with the same problems as before.

Freud Jung announces to the listener a resignation of his fate, saying that if he indeed dies tonight then he wants people to know that it was because the world wasn’t ‘right’. The many ills of the world has left him in a state of disenchantment and so he looks to depart from it.

He also employs the use of antithesis in ‘left’ and ‘right’ in the line to highlight the disparity between himself and the world.
