Akala believes ‘we’ i.e. black people, would have done the same. Because we, as humans, are all cowards with an urge to feel superiority over others

The tendency to play games of ‘rule and divide’ can be traced back to Ancient Egypt, where pyramids were (allegedly) built by slaves as the rich stood by, directed and whipped them til they bled.

Akala is suggesting that ruling others is a human condition – we are predisposed to do such things

Reference to youth culture of today including

• Violent video games which desensitise our children to killing and death, making life seem like nothing but a game and killing nothing but an adrenaline rush

• ‘Junk’ food, high calories and low nutrition – making our children unhealthy and ill

• Drug consumption and abuse
  Or, alternitavely, another reference to ignorance as the blue pill was a central metaphor in the Matrix series – The blue pill would allow Neo to remain ignorant and blissfully unaware of the truth.
  Akala could be suggesting that drug abuse is performing this function in Dystopia

Money has no natural survival value – we cannot eat or breathe it and it cannot kill disease, yet as a culture we are obsessed with it

This repetitive chanting of ‘Conform’ simulates the pressure to conform in our society – a Dystopia according to Akala

Reference to the propaganda-driven Western beauty ideal.

Despite some of us not necessarily agreeing with this image we are constantly exposed to, we may conform and act in agreement to these norms.

By responding in such a manner, we cut of (amputate) our conscience – our ability to think, and feel for act in accordance to our own judgement.

Background: Advances in science have led to the introduction of In vitro fertilisation, so a baby no longer has to be grown naturally in the body in a fallopian tube (the tube in which an egg is fertilised).

There are a lot of ethics involved, such as the question of whether this is ‘Playing God’. Akala is probably refering to this and this poses some questions, such as:
Is the manufacturing of babies dehumanising us and undermining nature’s course?

Dehumanisation is a key characteristic of Dystopia, so are we therefore living in Dystopia?

This is a reference to minority ruling, where the minority of a society have an overpowering stance, a disproporionate amount of power.

An example for this could probably be found in any and every society in history. From apartheids, to the dominance of the elite in authoriative positions such as the judicial system.
