“A-Tisket, A-Tasket” is an American nursery rhyme, with the opening lines being “A tisket, a tasket”. The whole rhyme is as follows,

A-tisket a-tasket
A green and yellow basket
I wrote a letter to my love
And on the way I dropped it,
I dropped it,
I dropped it,
And on the way I dropped it.
A little boy he picked it up and put it in his pocket.

Face begins with the opening line, but follows up with his own adaptation of the rhyme.

Lobsters are quite expensive, and are a sign of wealth. STEEZ uses a creative juxtaposition of a dirty (Dirty Sanchez, as mentioned earlier in the line) man, often meaning poor, eating in a fancy, clean restaurant. This shows how far STEEZ and Pro Era have come.

Redman’s thinking is on another level when it comes to his creative process, showing this by using the homophones “def” and “deaf”. He’s so def (meaning cool or excellent) that he’s deaf, and can’t even hear the beat he’s rapping on right now.

This also a play on the names of his crew the Def Squad as well as his record label Def Jam.

Shad has learnt to listen before he writes, to take in what is going on around him in the world and what has happened in the past.

He was once happy to begin writing whatever popped into his mind about whatever subject, but began to realize that it wasn’t meaningful, that it wasn’t going anywhere. Now you can hear, or not hear, the sound of Shad’s pen stopping from jotting down lines while Shad sits in silence and reflects.

He likes to smoke loud (Weed). He’s referring to the blunt as “protein” because the weed is so strong, like the effect of ingesting enough protein. Or it literally makes him strong. Popeye much?

This also refers back to the classic nursery rhyme “Ring Around the Rosey” which Keef frequently references throughout the song. This line plays on the following line,

Ashes! Ashes!
We all fall down

but creates his own, blunted out version.

Epilepsy is a disorder which causes shaking and seizures. An Etch-A Sketch is a child’s toy in which you control two dials to create a picture, then shake it to erase the image.

Asking how you “shake ‘em” is another way of saying “how you relax” or “how you kick it”. Shad finishes the thought by talking about the rough scenes that you may go through (Etch-A Sketch scenes), but you must force yourself to erase them and move on.
