While the fake reverends are scheming people in the church and making money and getting fancy houses, the real pastors are getting kicked out on the street.

“Brother” and “Sister” are what members of the congregation are usually called. Brother Johnson attends this crooked pastor’s church and puts money in the offering plate, thinking that it’s going to do good when It’s really going into the pocket of the crooked pastor, who lives lavishly.

Meanwhile, Brother Johnson, who probably lives paycheck-to-paycheck, is getting evicted. The church, which should look out for the poor, will not help because it’s crooked.

This whole album, The Diary, is meant to be Scarface talking to himself and documenting his life. This song especially, with Scarface talking directly to his diary the whole time.

Referencing that even though that’s how he opened the original “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” in 1991, things have still stayed the same. That ongoing paranoia still follows him around, so he keeps the candlesticks burning.

S.A. stands for South Acres, the neighborhood in Houston that Scarface represents. Scarface is saying that his enemy was “set tripping,” or insulting those from his hood.

The term “Fade” means to kill. Originally from South Central L.A., the term was used when gang members killed other gang members, hence their colours fading away.
