Les Black Hills (littéralement « collines noires ») sont une chaîne de montagnes située dans la partie ouest de l'État du Dakota du Sud. Le nom de Black Hills, traduit littéralement du Lakota, vient de ce qu'elles apparaissent sombres quand on les observe d'une certaine distance, du fait de leur couverture arborée.
Les Black Hills sont considérées comme sacrées par les Sioux Lakota. En 1868, les Etats-Unis signèrent le traité de Fort Laramie, qui exempta ces montagnes de toute installation par des Blancs, c'est pourquoi Joe l'Indien peut les considérer comme son repère où “trainer des gringos” (des Blancs) s'il en a envie.
Cependant, après la découverte d'or dans ces montagnes en 1874, les Lakota furent déplacés vers d'autres réserves, et le Congrès américain décida même en 1925 d'y faire ériger le mémorial national du Mont Rushmore où sont sculptées les visages des présidents de George Washington, de Thomas Jefferson, de Theodore Roosevelt et d'Abraham Lincoln.

Le “gousset” désigne plus communément la montre à gousset, le gousset étant le nom de la petite poche du gilet prévue à cet usage. La montre gousset est généralement attachée au gilet par une chaîne.
Le gousset désigne la montre à gousset que l'indien trimballe partout avec lui dans le film “pour quelques dollars de plus”. Shurik'N fait allusion au fait que l'indien tire sur ses ennemis en duel dès que la musique de sa montre à gousset s'arrête.

Le frère de Tuco est un curé, chacun ayant choisi des voies radicalement opposées. Comme le dit Tuco : “dans ce pays si on ne veut pas mourir de faim il faut faire ou le moine ou le bandit”.
Il apparait dans le film lorsque Tuco et Blondin trouvent refuge dans son monastère.
