The “semi-tan complexion” refers to people of mixed origin who possess ancestry from Europe, Asia, and various Khoisan and Bantu tribes of Southern Africa. Khoisans or “Coloured Race” roots are predominantly embedded in the dry regions of Southern Africa. Kendrick seemingly visited Western Cape. Nelson Mandela’s former prison cell is based off the western shore of Cape Town.
While ten rand is South African currency roughly equivalent to one dollar, Kendrick stresses the phrase in a way that sounds similar to ‘ten grand,’ implying that the homeless man is asking for too much; in reality, Kendrick has more than enough income to provide such a small amount. “Stressin' about dry land” further implies that the beggar is drowning in poverty, addiction, and falls victim to Africa’s intense climate—both geographically and politically.
The “semi-tan complexion” is foreshadowing the next song Complexion (A Zulu Love). Kendrick has his preconceived notions about this man based on the color of his skin. But, as we find out at the end of the song, “[c]omplexion, don’t mean a thing” because this man is in fact God.
“Khoisans or “Coloured Race” roots are predominantly embedded in the dry regions of Southern Africa. K.Dot seemingly visited Western Cape. Mandela’s former cell is based off shore the Western Cape (Cape Town).”
This whole chunk is ridiculous, and written by someone who clearly hasn’t been to South Africa. Just let someone else write about it, instead of editing my statement and making no sense at the end.
Historically the Khoisan lived in the dry regions of Southern Africa, obviously not anymore, its 2017 they live all across South Africa, just like the guy mentioned in this story, who is a beggar living in Cape Town.
The Western Cape is a province, you dont visit a province dude, you visit a city.
And the island is named Robben Island, it was a prison. Saying his cell is based off shore the western cape, makes no grammatical sense.

In southern africa(africa) people depend in farming. So if someone complains about dry land that means God is not blessing us with enough rain to produce our food
This will better explain the challenges that white, black and ‘coloured’ people have when it comes to land claim.
As noted above, the Khoisans or “Coloured Race” roots are predominantly embedded in the dry regions of Southern Africa and were the first to inhabit the space. They were slowly killed, chased off the land and enslaved by the European settlers.
This is what the ‘man stressing about dry land’ line could be referencing. As you can see, the man in the white shirt (who is coloured) is HIGHLY stressing about the same dry land. This was taken from a South African local talk show discussing race relations post-apartheid era.

(Also: the coloured lady’s thoughts in 35:36 better embody what Kendrick later realizes and briefly mentions in Complexion (A Zulu Love). )
