Basically, in order to see that KO has redefined himself (of which he has, TRUST!), read and listen to the lines he is dropping.

Note the wordplay in the second part of this line:

  • KO is using a double entendre here. When he says, “when the sparks fly,” he means when Cashtime and himself begin to light up the industry. Hopefully when that starts to happen, as if it hasn’t happened already, he hopes people can then see the amount of work they’ve all put in. He then cleverly emphasizes on “see the grind” to show the double entendre. When a metal grinds against another metal, sparks are created. This is what KO is referring to.

  • KO may also be saying that sparks will fly once he goes head-to-head against the competition.

Loose translation: “Girl you’re sliding your ass on the floor.”

KO may be referring to strippers or prostitutes who do this kind of thing because they need money. Once they have money, they’re happy. However, what they’re doing does not bring them happiness so even if they do get the money, they’re never really happy. KO could also be referring to girls who use their bodies to get men. They may get the men, but the men will use them for their bodies. And so that results in unhappiness.

AKA is the prince of SA Hiphop and he’s got soldiers (his crew) to protect him, so to say. AKA may also be comparing himself to many African political “tyrants” with this line. For example: This could be an extension of his Gaddafi Gaddafi or a comparison to people such as Idi Amin. Both the former and the latter ran their countries with full power and protection from the army. In the same way, AKA feels he kontrols the game in that way.

After having his video removed from youtube (it’s back now with an unfair rating), his Nafukwa t-shirts being pulled because of complaints of using Allah’s name in vain and the radio not playing the song because of it’s “explicit nature” (Don’t all rap songs have swearing? Last time we checked, Drake did use a few cuss words on 0-100), it’s only fitting that Riky says, “Fok Julle Naaiers.” A somewhat fitting tribute to Die Antwoord’s song, Fok Julle Naaiers meaning “Fuck All You Motherfuckers” when loosely translated, Riky is bringing a bit of soberness to the game what with all the turn up hits we’ve been having lately.

The funny thing is, this is one of the realest songs out there, and it seems everyone (Promoters, YouTube, Corporates, Radio etc.) is not supporting it. But when Riky makes a song like Amantombazane, everybody is on it because it’s radio friendly, it’s a turn up song and it talks about girls. One can’t help but think that Riky is referring to the industry and those who are just there to make money off of the art with the title.

If the music sounds good and the bars sound tight then people bang the music. Note throughout the song how Blu uses the different meanings of bang. In this case, he means to play music loud.

In this song Blu draws a lot of parallels between his name, the colour Blue and what it represents.

If you’re seen wearing blue in LA, people would assume that you’re a Crip. However, Blu was never part of any gang and still used that name. Even though it was a big risk, he still didn’t change it.

Verse after verse, KO keeps killing the competition, so who’s gon' stop him now? Take God’s Will for example, of which he collaborated with AKA on as well. People hailed it as the verse of 2013 next to Reason’s verse on No Sleep. In essence, what KO is really trying to say is:

But if all I hear is me, then who should I be afraid of?

AKA continues from the next line.

Here he reminds that we’re in South Africa, not the States. He references the Star Spangled Banner here:

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave…

In essence, what AKA is saying is something Zeus said in his song ‘Psych:’

ASI MO STATES!
