Though he’s disappointed that he couldn’t get the car, he’s happy that he can actually afford to buy it. Meaning that he’s slowing stepping up the ladder of success and financial freedom. However, with so much bills to pay and so much going on, that car would just take up all his money and so he’ll buy it when he knows he can afford to actually get it with no problems/debt at all. This is also a positive contrast from all the negative he was talking about in the previous lines.

Note the time frame. Reason had set the goal in August 2012 to get the car. And back then, he was willing to take the risk/chance and get it. However, it’s now 2013 and things are not the same. He has matured and is not that kid anymore. He’s a man who’s got bills to pay.

As much as he wants the car, he feels he’s not ready, financially, to purchase the car.

Being a rapper in South Africa does not necessarily pay very much, unless you’re well established like Tumi or an AKA. Many people do not buy into local rappers' albums, whether physically or electronically, Record Labels don’t have money and companies just don’t invest into the hip hop genre. So a rapper has to do everything himself, out of his own pocket, without the help of a label or an endorsement. So if a rapper owns a 320i, or any other car of that tier, you damn right he’s been rapping and working for 10 years for that financial freedom.

In Reason’s case, the previous lines show that he’s well on his way to affording that car and moving up in the world, but he’s not there yet.

The pricing of BMW 320i starts from 349 000 Rand to 663 500 Rands. You can do the converting yourself.

“BM” is short for BMW.

After the release of “Do It Like I Can”, Reason went on to enjoy much more success with his album and singles he released including a SAMA nomination and so, he had a good year. He could have copped the car.

However, nothing is guaranteed. In South Africa, the career of a rapper has the lifespan of a Dragonfly and so Reason knows that he probably would have lost it the moment he bought it.

“Do It Like I Can” was released August, last year. Reason had hoped that by this time, August 2013, he would already have the Beamer but he couldn’t get it. Though he could have took the chance, and copped it. The offer was there.

You could also say there’s a lesson learned in this. August 2012, homie was expecting to already have the beamer and to be well off financially by this time of the year. However, many other established rappers who have financial freedom had to wait a long time to get it. They too were in Reason’s position.

In time, it will come.

Remember how Reason started September on a good note? Well he’s ended it on an even better note with this heat for the summer. Production by Hopemasta, featuring Tumi, Ginger Trill, and comedian Tol A$$ Mo.

This song is a call to big companies/promoters who beginning to catch on to the hype of Hip Hop in South Africa. AKA elaborates on this in his interview with Hype Magazine:

These dudes in the offices are foul. As long as your skin color is a little tanned and you rap instead of play classical or Afrikaans music, they’re going to be like ‘Oh you’re who? AKA? You’re from that singing group, right? You sing 'Gold Digger’, right? Okay, great. Here’s R30 000. We need you to sing, dance, mod a rehearsal, show up at a fundraiser, take pictures and tweet constantly for a week prior to your performance.‘ That’s some bullshit. The only way we’re going to escape this cycle is if we start having some fucking pride for our art.

The first of the monthly installments from Reason The Mass. Here, homie touches on a topic synonymous in the music industry in South Africa, specifically in Rap: Money.
Though Reason has come a long way and can afford the better things in life (Jordan’s don’t lie son), he points out that he’s far from having that “Tumi with raps” money.

The production is INSANE by the way, courtesy of Instro.

In Biblical times, Melchizedek meant “King of Salem” or “King of Righteousness” and the “Priest of El Elyon (God most High).” The Melchizedek was a figure of importance because he was both King and Priest and was highly respected by Abraham.

Baatin is comparing himself to this, as King and “Priest” of Detroit.
