Royce is disillusioned with the post-millennium state of hip-hop – an art form that has been embalmed, wrapped up, and analyzed by Academia

Note the pun: Royce raps circles around the competition, rather than running (or “wrapping”) them

RZA contemplates either:
A) Lighting up a blunt
B) Drinking some beer
C) Going on a shooting rampage against authority.

Options A and B are common vices used in urban areas to take the stress off due to being screwed by society. But Option C, grabbing a .22 (pictured below) would be RZA ultimately giving into his anger over being stuck in a bad place and turning the hatred of society into physical violence, perhaps not unlike racially motivated violence he might have encountered.

This girl is all about her money (“cream” became a popular slang term for cash after the Wu-Tang’s hit). This could mean that she is an actual stripper, or she is just infatuated with Big Boi’s wealth.

De-oxygenated blood running through the human body was once said to appear blue when we look at it in our veins. (This is actually a myth; blood is indeed red in your body, it just becomes slightly lighter when oxygenated. If you’ve ever given blood you know that the drawn blood appears red in the tube, despite the tube being hermetically sealed). So Nas is saying he will forever remain true to his hood roots and refuse to talk to snitches until the day his blood starts spilling out of his body and turns red. While again, this is scientifically incorrect, it makes for a great line.

Pouring a drink out on the curb is a common tribute to deceased friends.

Nas dropped out of school in 8th grade shortly after his parents divorced. It seems that he did so to have more time to study music, African culture, and New York’s Five Percent Nation, but it’s possible a lady friend convinced him to drop out so that they could spend more time together.

Cooley High (1975) is a classic of black cinema, depicting the exploits of a group of black high school students in the early 1970s. Nas associates his own high school experiences with this film.

Nas explains:

Of course mink coats were always top of the line and luxury, but sheepskin coats was luxury too… especially in the hood. It was dangerous to wear one, you got killed for them, and I mentioned that in [“Memory Lane”].

Grand Wizard says this line was based on fact, as his friend was shot for his sheep coat.

Whilst smoking, Nas flashes back to the outdoor community festivals of his childhood where one of his friends was shot for his coat. It can be interpreted as both a hallucination from the weed or a flashback as he zones out.
