Notice a musical effect that Jean continues throughout this whole song – she leaves long pauses in between parts of the same sentence across a bar line. That is, the word “Either” really goes with the start of the next line, with “Your brain dead or…”, but she doesn’t reflect that in how her rap is structured.

As she says in this interview here, this song is “supposed to feel a little threatening, and unhinged, and energetic.” She does this by upsetting the normal rhythms of speech. She does this again, later such as on the words, “and the foulness crowd, when it [BIG PAUSE]…deflects back and it hits your limbs], later in the song.

Even if André had a twin that looked exactly like him and even had the same exact DNA, he would still be unique enough to differentiate himself from his twin and be viewed as his own person.

André addresses one of the many black stereotypes here: that most black people participate in gun violence and shoot each other with guns like Cupid shoots his arrows. Not only that, but they feel like the reason that blacks shoot each other is they are less intelligent and don’t understand the consequences of their actions.

André has “nappy”, or Afro-textured hair, something that he associates with black pride since most Caucasian’s hair does not grow like that. Dre implores his brothers and sisters to stop straightening their nappy hair to look “whiter” and to stay true to their roots.

Other members of the black community have addressed the problem as well. For example, Chris Rock focused on the hair styles of black women and how it affected society in his documentary Good Hair.

And Kenyan model Ajuma Nasenyana similarly asked her fellow Kenyans to embrace their own African beauty instead of trying to conform to the standards of other communities.

It seems that the world is conspiring in preaching that there is something wrong with Kenyan ladies’ kinky hair and dark skin… it’s not OK for a Caucasian to tell us to lighten our skin. I have never attempted to change my skin. I am natural. People in Europe and America love my dark skin. But here in Kenya, in my home country, some consider it not attractive… when you flip through fashion magazines like Vogue and only see white models, then you get the feeling on what is happening to black models. It is not fair"

White people tend to criticize those with darker skin, yet they still go tanning in the summer to make their skin darker. Somewhat hypocritical.

Rabbits reproduce rapidly; their pregnancies only last around a month, and they can get re-impregnated minutes after giving birth (source). So here, André is attacking the stereotype that most black men impregnate multiple partners then leave the mother to raise the kid on their own. This stereotype is supported by rappers like The Notorious B.I.G. who rap about how their father left them at a young age, as well as stories like Antonio Cromartie’s 10 kids with 8 different women before he had to get a vasectomy. The general public hears stories like the one about Cromartie and tries to apply it to the entire population, which simply isn’t fair.

When most people see André wearing golden jewelry they assume that it is actually counterfeit and made of the less valuable bronze – solely because he is black, and they don’t think a young black man should have enough money to buy nice things. Bronze is heavier than gold which explains why his neck would “weigh a ton”, and it also turns green as it corrodes (that’s why the Statue of Liberty is now green).

Style and status items are important in every culture, but basketball shoes (Air Jordans in particular) are especially important to the black community. Finding people wearing rags and $200 sneakers isn’t as uncommon as you might think. And reports of blacks killing other blacks for the new Jordans certainly don’t help kill the stereotype. Having said that, assuming that every single black person owns a pair of Air Jordans is highly sterotypical and inaccurate.

Too many young black men believe that the only way to get out of the ghetto is by becoming a pro athlete, rapper, or a gangster. This is partially because the media constantly portrays basketball as a “black” sport, rap as a black genre, and gang violence as being associated with black men. The Notorious B.I.G. spoke on this in “Things Done Changed”:

If I wasn’t in the rap game
I’d probably have a key knee-deep in the crack game
Because the streets is a short stop
Either you’re slinging crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot"

A common stereotyping of young black males in poor socioeconomic settings is that they are only able and willing to knock up girls and participate in the predominately black genre of rap.
