This is where for the first time in the song he questions the relationship as a longterm commitment.

He questions the true value of the awe that the relationship brings, wondering if that’s what keeps them together, or will they one day fix the dysfunction of their relationship.

This conundrum has got him all like:

They undo the knots in their relationship by having some good ol' make-up sex.

She is the one who always breaks down emotionally, while he has his shit straight.

The scars that her paws leave are both physical and emotional, but at least he got to see some titty.

Nothing is left of the relationship but the scars that her paws (hands/fingernails) have left. As the next line states, their scarring is both literal and metaphorical.

The paw definition of her hands makes the girl seem animalistic and angry.

Deciding which of them is wrong in actuality is irrelevant to this statement because to him, she’s in the wrong world, and he is the one stating this.

This line much relates to some lines from “Blue 52”:

Searching for love got me lost in a wilderness world
Where trees drop leaves of love letters written to girls

This time the girl is the one who is in another world, which he describes as the wrong one. Perhaps his wilderness world is the correct one.

This Line Could Mean Two Things

• The arguing has turned meaningless, as she constantly keeps the fights rolling. Yet knowing this, they both stay together because it makes life a bit more interesting and active.

• The arguing has finally stopped, and the gun (or mouth) she previously used to argue with is now the one she uses to blow him. Get it?

This line means two things:

1. Altitude represents maturity. He is saying she is much less mature than he is.

2. Her emotional state is blue and (foreshadowing the songs ending) he doesn’t want any part of it anymore.

The slang phrase “to raw dog” means to have sex without protection. He is asking if there’s any significance to the fact that they had unprotected sex; in other words, that they could have made a child together.

In his search for answers to why they’re still together, he notes that they didn’t end up like this,

but acknowledging that it could have happened, and wondering if it means he should stay.
