The opening track for the Queen of Hip Hop Soul’s debut album, What’s the 411?.

The album’s intro consists of a skit with executive producer for the album Puff Daddy failing to get ahold of MJB on her phone. We then hear phone messages from several of MJB’s other colleagues, each giving her praise surrounding the album.

Given that the album’s title was derived from MJB’s past job as a 411 telephone operator, this intro seems particularly well suited.

The drum beat looping throughout the track is sampled from “PSK, What Does It Mean?” by Schoolly D:

Calling someone a “fake up-North type nigga” is generally referring to someone who is from the NYC area (downstate), did a bid upstate, and now is “back home” bragging about how he “ran shit” in the jails upstate.

DMX is simply pointing out that lots of people claim that they did this or that while incarcerated, but in fact most are lying and are therefore “fake” in the eyes of true “up-North type niggas” who held their own while in jail (i.e. Earl Simmons).
