The phrase “rob Peter to pay Paul” figuratively means to solve one problem while creating/worsening another*. Similarly, placing a phone call from Mama’s house avoids increasing your own phone bill, although your dear mother’s bill suffers instead.

Fortunately for Legend, he no longer has to deal with such problems.

*Interestingly, it’s believed that the specific names Peter and Paul may have originally referred to St. Peter’s church in Rome and St. Paul’s church in London.

Kanye and Legend co-produced “Live It Up” alongside Devo Springsteen, who won a Grammy with Kanye for Best Rap Song in 2006 for co-producing “Diamonds From Sierra Leone.”

The main instrumental is sampled from “Love Is Missing From Our Lives” by The Dells and Dramatics. The opening medley was directly sampled and looped throughout the song.
