A Trailer Park Boys reference. Mr. Lahey talks about shit hawks, and guns go off a lot in Sunnyvale trailer park. Probably also supposed to relate to Brooklyn.

The Higgs Boson, aka the God Particle, is a hypothetical elementary particle who’s discovery would validate the Standard Model of Physics.

The theory is that after the Big Bang, many particles had no mass, until the theoretical Higgs field (an invisible energy field that encompasses the universe) switched on. Within this field, the Higgs Boson is the active particle, which clung to other fundamental particles, imparting mass onto them.

The Large Hadron Collider was built, among other things, to test the existence of the Higgs Boson, by trying to replicate similar conditions as to when the Big Bang occurred.

So, part of the idea is, how messed up would you be if you could actually snort the Higgs Boson? That’s the kind of effect EL-P has on you, in contrast to the weak whining of other rappers.

But there’s also the idea that religion is a drug which clouds your judgment. If you’re ‘sniffing the God particle’, you’re deluded about how the world really is.

Prisoners who are about to be executed via electrocution usually typically have the crown of the head and the calf of one leg shaved so that the electrodes make as much direct contact with the skin as possible, with the goal of making the death as quick as possible, and reducing the risk of fire or arcing electricity.

Prisoners are strapped to the electric chair for obvious reasons: to prevent them trying to leave the chair before the switch is thrown, and to keep a convulsing prisoner from flying loose of the apparatus after it is thrown.

Notice how his pronunciation of “fear” almost makes it a homophone for “fair”, and along with “mirror mirror” this line is a reference to the evil Queen in Snow White who famously asked:

Mirror mirror on the wall… who’s the fairest of them all?

“Sunglasses” is a slang term for police officers that references their common use of aviator shades in movies.

In the Heat of the Night was a pioneer film in the buddy-cop genre

The narrator of the song has given his girlfriend a scar (which he deeply regrets) because of foolish acts and the cop has taken an interest in the girlfriend because her scar is consistent with domestic violence.

The Empire State Building isn’t just high—it was once the tallest building in the world, standing at 1,454 feet (443.2 m) tall.

To get high is an expression that means to take drugs in an effort “to have a feeling of pleasure or excitement.” Often people use hyperbole (‘higher than the stars’ or ‘higher than Mars’) to say that someone is very affected by the drugs they’ve taken.

707 is a glass table made by Boeing. It’s a rather expensive table, especially for someone without a stable home to be investing in. However, Abel used this furniture for snorting lines of cocaine.

707 may also refer to the Roland TR-707 drum machine, which was probably used in the making of this track.

707 is also the chemical name for glass cleaners (e.g. Windex) most likely used to clean the tables after snorting lines of coke.

A reference to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne. eXquire holds in greater esteem the kind of chair one might find in the hood, than the more ostentatious seating arrangements that support HOVA and Yeezy.

Beyond dismissing the grandeur of a literal throne, eXquire is saying that Jay and Ye’s boasts of being the best are bullshit and that the best rappers alive, in this case him, can be found in the hood, presumably hungrier and harder at work on their craft.

Drake doesn’t want to lie to this girl, but if he tells her the truth it will kill her. Because of his lies, Drake can’t sleep.

Here, Drake plays on the words “lies still”, serving as a double entendre:

Firstly, and most obvious, Drake admits that he (the person he’s talking about) still is lying, making this girl unable to sleep.

Secondly, she can’t sleep as she’s restless, while he is lying still, because he’s sound asleep.

Furthermore, it’s also a play on the previous line. He wants to die real because if he tells her the truth, it’ll hurt her, whereas if he lies, it won’t make her feel as bad.
