Another true story. A few year 10s have said this to me. I consider it a compliment.

Teachers will tell you, we do so much ticking (marking papers/ essays/ exams) that we can rival clocks. Simple wordplay. And as a teacher, I can pass or fail people. Other rappers get an F for not being me. Arrogant I know.

The rhymes are coming one after the other, ie: back to back, which is represented in the image of streetwear brand Kappa, in which two figures sit back-to-back:

Then, to consolidate the rhyme, I throw in a reference to 90s hip-pop outfit Kris Kross, who wore their clothes back to front.

Basically, I’m flipping everything as hard as I can whilst dropping old-school references to remind you of my vintage.

When one of my former students heard this, she said I was “gassed”. What can I say? And nothing says ‘boss’ more than correctional officer…

True story. I’ve always had mutual respect with my year 11 classes, but after my mixtape, some would actually hold doors open for me in the corridors.

It’s almost as if these kids see hiphop as THEIR language, and I had qualified myself to use it. I was one of their peers.
