In Shakespeare’s time, biting one’s thumb was a derisive gesture, roughly equivalent to flipping the middle finger. It was considered provocative enough to start fights.

Watsky seems to have taken liberties with the gesture’s implementation, inviting Seuss to bite his thumb for him. While this may not have been done on purpose, it is possible that he wrote this line as an allusion to Seuss’s supposed childish nature. If interpreted in this way, the line essentially means “Fuck you, thumb-sucker. Suck on this.”

Quite an audacious opening remark, but this is the Bard, after all.

Four of present-day rap’s stoniest characters get together for a laid-back and unique spin on the title of an Owen Wilson movie and the book that came before it. Their backgrounds are diverse, but they all love to smoke weed.

Freddie Gibbs can send 6 guys, each carrying a rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition, to shred your Mercedes S600 with gunfire (which is a possible Wale diss, as “600 Benz” is an actual Wale song).

Note also the slick integration of three phrases that use “6,” creating a background reference to “666,” or the “Devil’s number.” Gibbs uses this to reinforce that he and his dudes are up to no good.

A complex chain of wordplay.

First, Donald Trump is a wealthy businessman. Snoop references him because of his high net worth.

Second, a “trump” is a card of the highest-ranking suit in the game. These are generally saved until the moment at which they are guaranteed to move the player ahead in the game.

Third, in the same sorts of card games, being “trump tight” means having a hand which consists entirely of trump cards. He uses this term to mean that he has both the advantage in the current situation and plenty more tricks up his sleeve.

Fourth, virgins, whether because of their young age and higher muscle tone or their unbroken hymens, have vaginas which are generally tighter than those of older or more experienced women. Snoop Dogg’s rhymes are “tight,” meaning that they show technical and linguistic aptitude.

And finally, since Dr. Dre specializes in making beats and therefore working with the inner structure of a song, he could be considered a musical surgeon.

Although the brain is technically the origin of a rapper’s flow, the throat acts as a conduit for it and is therefore the area to inspect for signs of life. Since the patients are a metaphor for hip hop, “blood starting to flow” would be a product of lyrical flow improving and bringing life to the person (or genre) Dr Carter is trying to save.

Since gun violence in schools is a serious subject and Lil Wayne knows this, he takes a different tact at the last minute while still remaining jovial. He flips “gun-play” around in this line to mean “I’m playing, I wouldn’t do that, chill out.” Effectively, this line is an example of a deconstructed triple entendre, since it uses two double entendres in a row which stem from the same phrase.

A direct reference to an old Lil Wayne line, from “I’m Blooded,” off of Da Drought 3. Drake may have a different, more sensitive approach to its meaning, but Wayne meant that he’s usually the one pursuing women for sex, and now they pursue him in the same way.
