Stonehenge is an ancient site (for lack of a better term) in south west England that has been the source of much attention, speculation and mystique. Its purpose has never been fully explained although it was the site of rituals and has acoustic properties and links to the constellations.

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum in India which was built by an emperor to express his love for one of his wives. The entire building is completely symmetrical and is widely thought of as one of the most beautiful bits of architecture in the world. It is known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

By calling the corner a ‘Stonehenge’ and a ‘Taj Mahal’ the poet shows how the community related to the corner with a reverence and had almost a spiritual relationship with it, that the space is an expression of love to the people who live there. It has deeper meaning for the people.
