Moonshine is homemade liquor (whiskey), usually very strong. It usually very clear of color due to the fact that it hasn’t gone through the aging process. The process was famous during the prohibition era of the US where people would produce the whiskey by the light of the moon. This type of alcohol is still illegal to at the time of this song.

Earl uses wordplay to suggest that the alcohol has him feeling drunk, or “loose.” This is also slang for the description of a promiscuous woman’s female sex organ.

This may be a reference to Hip Hop’s influence on young people. He needs “backup” so he can reach more children and increase their knowledge unlike most mainstream hip hop is.

Most people are still asleep at dawn, so that is obviously the time when people are the most vulnerable. This could be Jay talking about other rappers and how he’s coming up on them slyly (as in not many people knowing who he is, not releasing many materials so when he actually drops something everyone will be surprised because it’ll be so good). Additionally, it could also be him saying that to get his word out he needs help from others, like labels.

The other meaning was that, especially in this song, he’s making the listeners aware of what’s happening in the world. But most people are ‘sleeping’ on the real issues.
Dawn is the best time to surmount an attack on enemy forces. Some people dig too deep into jays lyrics.

In this song, MF DOOM performs as Viktor Vaughn, one of the many aliases and personalities he has, and makes a phone call to chew out a girl who’s cheated on him (with DOOM, ironically), with his usual excellent lyricism.

The song’s title comes from a lyric of ZZ Hill’s “That Ain’t The Way You Make Love” which was sampled for this song.

After Vik says power, the sampled vocals say you. Power U is a Supreme Alphabet abbreviation for the word “pussy”.

See DOOM’s “Rhymes Like Dimes”, Method Man’s “All I Need” or “Tearz” by Wu Tang for other uses of this phrase.

Just like teenagers have puppy love, this love was also puppy love in the sense that it was naive and it wasn’t at all what he thought it was.

This line also references the Slick Rick song “Teenage Love”

Vik is pissed because even though she apologized, it doesn’t change the act of cheating.

If the girl wants sex just for the pleasure and not on sentimental level then she should just stick with “Tin Face”.

The line is a play on what had happened before. Given that she gave the dude a blowjob, which is usually considered foreplay. The word “raw” could also be in reference to the manner of their separation— no foreplay. Meaning they’ll get straight to the “raw” & ugly phase of breaking up.

This song is told from the perspective of Viktor Vaughn, who is one of MF DOOM’s alter egos.

In this song Viktor’s girl cheated on him with DOOM, so Vik is going to beat up DOOM. The “tin crown” that Vaughn mentions is DOOM’s signature mask.

Tin is a very malleable metal and “crown” could also be referring to the area of the skull of the same name, so a tin crown would be an easy skull to pound in.

A tin crown is a near-worthless crown, so Viktor could be insinuating that DOOM has an undeserved sense of superiority over others.

He came up without no support, no fans or nothing he started from the ground up and made himself what he is today

Or the crowd was still shocked by the performance that they forgot to applaud him.
