The ‘weird’ piano-like sound throughout the whole song is a harpsichord, popular in the 60’s especially for the baroque rock genre.

Instead of the strings getting struck by a hammer like a conventional piano, they are plucked which gives it the distinctive sound.

Although it’s widely reported that most (or some) people in the band didn’t like the whole SMiLE project, it can be heard on the SMiLE Sessions that Wonderful was one their favorite tracks.

The song seems to be about the loss of a girl’s innocence when she meets someone.

The gross “story of a young woman and her steadfast embrace of adolescence through the loss of her own virginity” interpretation came from a single dubious biographer ages ago. It’s one person’s weird interpretation of the lyrics, not the definitive truth.

These lyrics show how the world prefers stories about death to stories about life. People would rather have a war and make blood shed than find a more peaceful solution where innocent people aren’t the ones suffering.

This could also refer to Jeff placing himself in the shoes of a Jew during the war in Germany, being saddend to see how everyone wants his kind dead.

The use of “flies” is very similar the meaning/use in Lord of the Flies, an illusion crafted out of fear, confusion, and ignorance, much like the holocaust.

In addition, the dead were often left in piles in Auschwitz. Because these piles were outside they decayed and attracted flies which landed on their faces.

It may also have something to do with how the united states knew about the concentration camps but did nothing about it until 1945

I don’t really get the feeling that the portion of the annotation seen above the photo of the Nazi rally is the message being conveyed in the lyric. I think the belief Jeff/narrator is hoping to get across is that the majority of humanity has done as we frequently do, and can do very well when the majority of society pitches in. We figured a way to make a painful atrocity, probably the worst atrocity we’ll ever see humanity inflict upon others,, less painful. Whether consciously or subconsciously, most people not involved learned to desensitize ourselves from the horrors of the holocaust, as much as can be possible that is, by taking as much of the humanity out of the equation as possible, meaning, instead of thinking of the individual victims we think of the number of victims. We don’t know if that specific body was a painter, we don’t his name, the names of his loved ones, his lovers, we know nothing but that he’s one dead body in a picture amongst hundreds of others.
We think of the millions dead stacked atop one another like cord wood, often seen in photos with the flies literally in the eyes of the all those nameless dead.
Obviously this isn’t how we all understand, think, or feel about the holocaust, but it appears to be the way a large majority do. It’s the way it is seemingly presented to us most often in historical documentaries and such.
Maybe Jeff/our narrator is lamenting this belief. I think it may also possibly call back to the lyric “the Earth looks better from the star that’s right above from where you are” where, as a group, and in our personal lives, we often do our best to find ways to put the prettiest face we can convince ourselves are often the truth atop ugly situations.

The song that she is humming is not about her, its just from the blur inside Hodgy’s mind.

Or: blur as in the general crowd. When something is a blur that means you can’t remember it or you can’t recall something. A crowd of OF fans can be anyone and in his eyes it was a blur

Double entendre:

1) His shoe size is 11.5 (well he is pretty tall).
2) He’s eleven and a half years old

This further propagates the idea that Tyler wants to be young, especially since kids often give their age in those semantics (e.g. “I’m six and a half”)

Tyler originally said the same line on his 2009 song, “Pigs Fly”
