About Aasim

Aasim is a rapper, producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur whose greatest success came from his ghost contributions for Diddy.

Born Leroy Vincent Watson in Jamaica, Queens, New York on April 12, 1978, his career began in the mid ‘90s when he signed to Loud Records, a label that also had Big Pun and dead prez on their roster at the time. While with them, he appeared on their promo release The Set-Up but never released any music officially, and left once his contract deal was up in the late '90s.

After a brief period of inactivity due to the death of Big Pun in 2000, Aasim returned to making music, and soon earned the attention of a few labels interested in him. Out of those deals, he decided to sign with Bad Boy Records, where he would be Diddy’s right-hand man and also worked as part of the label’s production team The Hitmen.

As his attempts at putting out a commercial project kept ending in failure, Aasim’s discography became instead defined by his release of thirteen mixtapes, each containing various styles from explicit and gritty, to experimental and lady-oriented. His first was 2005’s The Money Pit (which is often mistaken as his debut album) and his most recent is 2013’s Walking On The Stars.

While never achieving a remarkable amount of popularity in his own right, Aasim’s work as a ghostwriter for others such as Diddy and even the character of his one-time collaborator Brandy in the short-run ABC series Queens have earned lots of attention. He now operates his own design and printing business for T-shirts and hats.
