Area 11

About Area 11

Area 11 is a four-piece band from Nottingham, England. They debuted with the BLACKLINE EP in 2011, the songs based on anime series. You cannot place their sound into one genre, being inspired by Japanese rock, synth-pop, and EDM.

The band is composed of Tom Clarke (Sparkles*) on vocals and keys, Jonathan Kogan (Kogie) on bass, Alex Parvis on guitar, and Leo Taylor on drums.

Their next release was All The Lights In The Sky on January 31, 2013, a mix of more songs based on anime, Sparkles' original anime concept Digital Haunt, and even a reimagined version of “Euphemia.” A deluxe version came out a year after, which included instrumentals, commentary, explicit versions, and tabs.

On May 1, 2014, Area 11 released their single “Homunculus,” based on the popular anime Fullmetal Alchemist. This is known to be their last song about anime, even though they had teased fans with titles from other anime songs they had planned.

Focusing more on Sparkles* original anime concept, the band released the Underline EP by the end of that year and went radio silent for over a year. This EP feels like a transition between their previous anime-like sound and the new mature showcased in their second full-length Modern Synthesis, released on July 1, 2016.

In between 2018 and 2020, the band released singles for their third full-length, Singlarity. In 2019, Area 11 also released Cassandra Rising exclusively for their Patreon fans, the imagined soundtrack for Sparkles' anime concept story.
