Black Hattitude

About Black Hattitude

Black Hattitude was a 90’s rap parody group that consisted of three members: The Scholar, The Force, and their DJ the Spun-Doctor. Several of these names are parodies or puns:

Typical yeshiva students wear black fedoras, and are often referred to as ‘Black Hat Jews’. The name ‘Black Hattitude’ combines the above phrase with the word ‘attitude’, meaning that the attire they wear is merely a product of their morals, views and beliefs.

Spun-Doctor is both a pun on the word spuddok, a type of black frock-coat worn by high ranking Rabbi’s of many Ashkenazi Jews, and a possible reference to the legendary Dr. Dre!
