Danny Stiles

About Danny Stiles

Stiles was born in Evansville, Indiana, in 1932. He played trumpet and flügelhorn in the late ‘60s and early '70s, in a studio band for the Merv Griffin and Dick Cavett shows. On the former, he met Bill Watrous, with whom he began an important musical relationship. He also played lead trumpet in Watrous’ Manhattan Wildlife Refuge big band. Throughout his career, Stiles played with artists such as Jake Hanna, Gil Evans, Bette Midler, Jimmy Smith, Gerry Mulligan and Woody Herman. He died in Florida in 1997.
