Fly Boy Gang

AKA: FBG (Chicago) and FBG

About Fly Boy Gang

Fly Boy Gang, also known as FBG, is a Chicago-based hip-hop rap group. Young, Dutchie, and Duck are three childhood friends who formed the collective in 2009 and 2010. The group found their moniker from their high school days when they stood out from their peers. On June 1, 2017, Duck joined Vlad TV for interview, where he recounted on their past and explained on how they created their rap name:

We was fresh as hell. We was the flyest motherfuckers in the school […] We had all the bitches, I was on the basketball team. Why not be ‘Fly Boy Gang,’ you know what I’m saying? We fly, we boys. And it’s a whole lot of gang shit going on.

The group are regarded as the lovable underdogs and was founded in Woodlawn—the South Side neighborhood where Dro City musicians Pac Man and King Louie rose Drill music to prominence.

As gang politics began to trump musical talent, the trio was shunned from the beginning by their industry-backed rivals Chief Keef, Edai, and Lil Durk. Faced with intense competition and a lack of mainstream appeal, the trio enlisted the help of their friends and relatives including Boss Krizzy, Reese G, Yung Da Copo, and many more neighborhood youths.

The group became well-known for their distinctive sounds and coining phrases: “bang,” “clout,” and “gang.” Fly Boy Gang dominated Chicago’s underground rap scene for the last decade – despite futile attempts to gain mainstream.
