Foo Fighters are an American alternative rock band formed in 1995 by ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Originally a solo project by Grohl to overcome the grief of Kurt Cobain’s death, Grohl attracted label interest with his inaugural demo tape. He then decided to recruit a full band to perform the songs live.
They have since released eight studio albums, four of which won Grammies, and sold over 12 million copies in the US alone.
Fun Fact: According to Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters' band name is named after the UFOs that were reported by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II.
I was reading a lot of books on UFO’s. Not only is it a fascinating subject, but there’s a treasure trove of band names in those UFO books! So, since I had recorded the first record by myself, playing all the instruments, but I wanted people to think that it was a group, I figured that FOO FIGHTERS might lead people to believe that it was more than just one guy. Silly, huh?
