About Gabriel García Márquez

Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014) began life as a journalist in his native Colombia but eventually gained greater fame as a novelist. Books such as One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera popularized the literary style known as magical realism, a style particularly associated with South America. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, and upon his death, Colombia’s president proclaimed him the greatest Colombian who ever lived.
