Gregorio Allegri

About Gregorio Allegri

Gregorio Allegri (1582?-1652) was a Catholic priest and composer whose two careers had been intertwined since boyhood, when he started as a boy singer in his local church. His singing voice and talent for composing religious music brought him to the attention of Pope Urban VIII, who installed him permanently in the Sistine Chapel’s choir in Rome. There he wrote numerous choral works, most notably the Miserere.
