About Hildegard

Hildegard is the project of montreal-based artists Helena Deland and multi-instrumentalist/producer Ouri.

Their self-titled debut album, Hildegard is a chronological documentation of the 8 days Helena Deland and Ourielle spent together in the studio while getting to know each other, tracks which fuse together to balance their acoustic and electronic sensitivities, a yin and yang relationship, “a beauty through the grotesque.”

The two took the name Hildegard from the 12th-century nun Hildegard of Bingen, an influential multi-faceted polymath of science, music, spirituality, and philosophy. Deeply fascinated by her works, Helena and Ouri invoke the patron saint of Hildegard to empower the themes of upending expectations, toying with feminine moods and roles, and rejecting pre-ordained structures within their sound.
