Julian Koster (born July 26th, 1972) is an American musician and songwriter. A member of Elephant 6, he is the leader of The Music Tapes, a member of former band Neutral Milk Hotel and a former member of Chocolate USA. He is known for his heavy use of unorthodox instrumentation, such as the bowed fuzz bass, bowed banjo, and singing saw.
He is also the creator, writer and lead performer of the WYNC Studios fiction podcast The Orbiting Human Circus.
