Jonathan Sklute was born and raised in Berkeley CA. He formed the rap group The Fundamentals with Bret Sweet aka Karma Chi at Berkeley High School circa 1992-3, and went on to produce and/or engineer most of the material attributed to the legendary Bay Area underground hip-hop crew Kemetic Suns. Sklute spent many years in New York City, and recorded the album “Breaking Records” as The Soul Purpose with friends Zvi and Mazzi around 2002-3. Sklute later went on to own and operate the storied vinyl record shop Good Records NYC, and now runs Key System Recordings, a small independent record label concern dedicated to undearthing previously unheard music from all regions and eras. Recent and upcoming releases include rare music by Yusef Lateef, Standing On The Corner, Freestyle Fellowship, The Tee Holman Sextet, Hijrah, and EyedlMode.
