About Low

Low was a two-piece band from Duluth, Minnesota. They are often credited as pioneers of the “slowcore” genre, characterized by extremely slow tempos and sparse, deliberate arrangements.

The band’s members, Alan Sparhawk (guitar) and Mimi Parker (drums, b. 1967 – November 4, 2022) were husband and wife, and shared in the bulk of the songwriting and singing. A revolving cast of bassists filled out the lineup throughout the band’s career, the most recent being Steve Garrington, who left the band in 2020.

In addition to Low, Sparhawk has a number of side projects of varying levels of activity, the most visible among them being Retribution Gospel Choir.

In the wake of Mimi’s death, Alan dissolved the band, announcing the news on Twitter.
